Kirsty Seddon - Cowal 2022

Cowal 2022

When I decided to attend this years World Highland Dance Championships, I did so on a whim.

I was going to be in England visiting family anyways, so why not take a little trip to Scotland for Cowal.

The last time I attended in 2019, it was 3 months after I tore an ankle ligament and I only did 2 of the 4 dances. This year, I had a goal of doing all 4 dances.

The excitement for Cowal started when I was packing my suitcase, making sure I had everything I needed. At the airport I met up with other dancers making the trek to Scotland for Cowal. Everyone was excited. It was amazing seeing all the people back in Dunoon and the celebrations of the Gathering. It’s quite the atmosphere.

When it comes to dancing at Cowal, standing on the main platform in front of the grandstand is a feeling unlike any other. While I may never dance on that stage on the Saturday, I imagine it’s even more electric.

But honestly, just being in the presence of those who will become world champions is so humbling and awe inspiring. I look up to so many of those dancers present and just being able to watch them in person or share the stage with them is unreal. So back to my goal…I did it 😃 Just being able to get up there as an adult who started dancing later than most and making it through the dances with my own mini goals in my head is a great feeling. Not only did I meet my goal, I had fun doing so and made new friends.

Now, I have to listen to my body and rest my feet as my Achilles are a little angry right now. While it’s great to dance and have fun, it’s also important to rest and allow your body to heal.

Until next time Cowal. Kirsty xx
