Abigail Tilley-Burbidge 1st Blog for The Highland Dancer

Hiiiii, my name is Abi and I'm a 16 year old highland dancer.

I have been dancing since I was 8 years old and I currently go to dance class 3 times a week with The Turner School of Highland Dancing in Corby.

As much as I love dancing, improving my dancing and the amazing feeling when I reach my goal which is truly a blessing in it's self, our dance school has such a strong family feel which means the most to me about Highland dancing. I have had a few bumps in the past eight years dancing and every single time my dance teachers and my dance school are there to forgive me, support me, and believe in me, even when I don't believe in myself.

Before I started highland dancing, I had never been on a train, never been to Scotland, never had Best friends of different ages, and never had multiple different mums, lol. As a dance school we have visited Disney land Paris to dance and traveled the majority of England for dance competitions. I have also competed in the world championships and have achieved two scholarships to Scotland to dance!!

My favourite dance is the jig, purely because it's the only dance where I can wear comfy clothes when competing I am hoping to take my teaching exam to teach highland dance in February 2018, which I am super super excited about.

I have very recently got a new kilt!! This is my fourth kilt since I started dancing in 2009!

People really underestimate the power of highland dancing and how much of a therapeutic and determined SPORT it is!!
