Catriona & Eilidh Gammons 1st Blog for The Highland Dancer

Catriona & Eilidh Gammons 1st Blog for The Highland Dancer

Hi we are Catriona and Eilidh Gammons and we are dancers from the Margaret Rose School of Dance in Helensburgh.

Although we do many styles of dance, Highland is our favourite.

We are so excited that the competition season has started as we love dancing and competing but also spending time with our dancing friends. Highland dancing has given us the opportunity to compete all around the World. Last year we were lucky enough to go on 3 overseas trips.

The first was to Australia during the Easter holidays where we danced in the Champion of Champions. It was the best experience ever, we had an amazing time, made so many fantastic memories and friendships and loved every minute. We would definitely recommended Australia as a championship destination as we were made very welcome and we hope to revisit in the near future.

Then we had the opportunity to return to Canada with our dance school to compete in the Scotdance Canada Championships Series. Travelling with our dance school is extra special, we always have an amazing time and our dance friends are like family to us. It’s also great to see all our overseas friends. We especially love Scotdance as it’s such a well run event and we love how the competition is spread out over a few days.

Since it moves around Canada each year we get to visit and explore different parts of Canada. We have been lucky enough to compete in London Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Calgary and we are super to excited for Moncton 2019 this summer!

Our third overseas trip last year was to the USIR in Gettysburg. We are very grateful to our Canadian friends for inviting us to stay with them in Canada and taking us to the USIR. Without them, we would never have had this opportunity and experience. We love the strong connection we have made through dancing and dancing friendship are friendships that will last a life time.

We have to say a huge thank you yo our dance teacher Margaret as none of what we have achieved would have been possible without your help, support and encouragement. We also have the best dance family ever they are so supportive and make all the hours of hard work in class more fun. They always know how to make us laugh when we’re down and encourage us to keep pushing ourselves.

We competed in California in February on the Queen Mary. This was an amazing experience and what a venue, definitely worth a visit.  We loved dancing in our first championship and premiership of our 2019 season and also catching up with our dance friends who we hadn’t seen since summer.

We had a great day at the first Scottish championship of 2019, the SDTA Championship. We had lots of fun dancing and catching up with our dance friends. We were very pleased with our results and are very happy with how well this season has started.

One of the competitions we’re looking forward to is the Highlands and Islands music and dance festival in Oban. We are delighted to be representing Team Argyll and Bute in the area finals again this year. We love this event and have an amazing time with our team mates and the other teams - it’s just really great fun!

We love dancing so much! We have had so many great opportunities through dance and we have made so many great friends and have so many amazing memories. We would like to thank the highland dancer for asking us to do this blog and if anyone had any questions you can get in touch with us through our Instagram page @gammonsgirlsssss or come speak to us at the competitions.
