1st Blog Introducing our NEW Highland Dancer INTERNATIONAL BRAND Ambassador Elie Roe Daniel

Hi my name is Elie Roe Daniel

I am a dancer and have danced since I was 4 years old with the Kim Roe School of Dance in Launceston, Tasmania,  where I learned a variety of dance styles…Ballet, Jazz, Hip-hop, lyrical, folkloric, contemporary and Highland dance.

I spent 2 years in Melbourne at the Spectrum School of Performing Arts, concentrating on dance, drama , singing and musical theatre.

..........

I just love Highland dance where I have won about 40 state and national titles, won championships overseas and made the World Finals in Scotland 5 times in all age groups including 3 adult finals.

I have been one of the lead dancers at the Melbourne, Sydney, Virginia (USA)  and Edinburgh Military Tattoos.

..........

I have performed in the AFL Footy Show Review,  “9 to 5” & “ Strictly Ballroom” musical theatre shows in Launceston, the Crown Hotel in Melbourne at Spectrum Reviews’ and was Hobart Platforms 2017 ‘most professional performer”. I have performed in 17 Kim Roe Launceston Pantomimes.

However, you just can’t do HD, it needs a lot of work. The steps are very intricate and to be successful you need to have really good technique, and that means lots of practice, listening and understanding what you are being told, and practice, practice, practice. This means not just at dancing but at home as much as you can. Someone once told me, if you’re not practicing to make yourself the best, someone else will be.

Highland needs strength, power, elevation and really high aerobic fitness. So extra time each week needs to be put aside to work on your fitness and strength. Making great what is not and better what is good. Highland also needs presentation and flair. You need to show that you love it, it’s great it’s fun as well as performing your dances with the correct technique.

My ballet and musical theatre helps me with this

I attend dance classes 6 days a week. 4 of those are Highland and are 1 1/2 to 2 hours long. I practice at home and have skype lessons 3-4 times a week, do fitness ( gym, exercise circuits, swimming, Pilates, bike, etc) at least 5 days, many doubling up like a circuit workout and a swim or bike then Pilates.

In 2019 I will be auditioning for shows, cruise ships, modelling opportunities, dancing at the Virginia, Sydney and Edinburgh Military Tattoos, teaching and choreographing in Scotland and taking up any opportunity I can to become a professional performer.

A BIG Welcome to Elie to the Brand Ambassador Team - we are looking forward to working with you and following your progress and seeing your posts and photos :D
