We are sisters Sophie and Annie Johnston from East Lothian in Scotland.
It’s Sophie writing this first blog today, so let me introduce us both and tell you a bit about us...
..
I’m 16 years old and have been Highland dancing for just over two years now. Well apart from a couple of classes back in 2014 where I was a bit like a baby elephant and thought this isn’t for me!!!
..
But after sitting at comp after comp with my mum and my sister I decided to give it another try, I knew quite a lot of the dances after watching so much so really needed to learn how to do the steps properly. I loved it second time round and wish I had started sooner!

I danced last weekend at SOHDA Tartan Week competition in Arbroath and that marked exactly two years since I started competing!

For me the best thing about dancing is being part of the highland dance community, the friendships I’ve made and keeping fit.
..
My sister Annie is 12 years old and started dancing at the end of 2014 when she was 8 years old and started competing in spring the next year. Annie wanted to dance since she was much younger but was unable to do so as she had lots of problems with her foot and ankle when she was younger (she has a condition called talipes) but started dancing as soon as she was allowed. She fell in love as soon as she started and has a real passion for all dancing, she does ballet and modern classes too.

Annie has been lucky enough to be able to audition for and be selected to dance in the world famous Taste of Scotland Show in Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh for two seasons which she has totally loved and met some amazing people.

Annie’s favourite things about dancing are her friendships from all over Scotland and all different dance schools and competing, she says who else gets to spend all day dancing with your friends while your mum runs about helping you!!!

We both dance with Frankie Campbell Dance School which gives us lots of opportunities to do displays and fundraising and are going to The International Gathering of Highland Dance in Disneyland Paris in November this year.
